Along the waterThe Guinguettes

Summer in Toulouse means bright sunshine and soaring temperatures. Here, there are no huts on the private beaches of the coast, but rather a welcome return of one of the symbols of French-style conviviality: Guinguettes!

An unbeatable view

Since the end of lockdown, restaurants cafés and bars were allowed to reopen in Toulouse, terraces are now extended to keep health guidelines up and our favorite pop-up restaurants have stood out their tables for the upcoming summer season in some quirky spots. Here are just a few examples of places that let you enjoy the sweet life « à la Toulousaine » that reigns over the city whenever the weather is fine.

The « Guinguette de Chouchou » is located next to the Garonne river, on the Quai de Tounis, opposite the Prairie des Filtres. A stone's throw from where the French singer Claude Nougaro used to live, this guinguette is the ideal spot for a truly relaxing moment, between brick, river and green spaces.

Towards the city centre, the guinguette « Les Pêcheurs de Sable » at Port de la Daurade delights groups and families seeking refreshment beneath its parasols. Here local products treat the guests with tasting menus, brunch, vegan or gluten-free dishes, as well as a musical ambiance every evening.

The great novelty of the season is the arrival of « Horizon » guinguette on board a Les Bateaux toulousains barge! Moored at the Quai de la Daurade during the day to enjoy lunch, snacks or aperitifs/tapas, it is a real gourmet cruise along the Garonne that is offered at dinner time, during the 8pm service. Foodies will love this new address, which is none other than the little sister of the « Racines » guinguette, a healthy and trendy address that has been a hotpsot in Port Viguerie at the foot of the summer Ferris wheel since 2020.

Also on the other bank, « la Guinguette de Saint-Cyprien » in the Raymond VI garden, right next to the modern art museum Les Abattoirs, offers a unique panorama of the Garonne and the city from its belvedere. All generations meet here to enjoy an ice cream and relax. On Sundays, you can go to the garden to watch dance demonstrations or take part in the various dances.

Still in the Saint-Cyprien district, a guinguette hidden in a listed courtyard awaits you. The « Ciergerie des Teinturiers » displays typical tables and garlands of lights in this former wax and candle factory in a convivial atmosphere.

One of the must-visit pop-up restaurants of the summer, Toulouse locals and tourists alike can dip their toes in the sand at « La Centrale », a quirky seasonal spot that has opened on Ile du Ramier. In the process of being transformed into the green lung of the city, a site that will soon become the "Central Park" of Toulouse boasts a second establishment at the tip of the island:
« L’Écluse » - a riverside restaurant and pub. Beneath the parasols, set between the Garonne and the trees, this is a veritable relaxation space that allows visitors to enjoy the conviviality of the South-West with a tipple or a good meal. An address not to be missed to get away from it all, in the heart of Toulouse. And this summer, our Master-chef Simon Carlier from the restaurant Les Solides in Les Carmes is taking over the kitchen!

The « Canaille Club » has once again set up home at the Espace Cobalt in the Montaudran quarter. Make the most of its 2,000m2 of terraces as you succumb to the passion of the greatest of all summer sports: Pétanque. 8 little kiosks with a wide range of products serve food, coktails, wines and the local craft beer "Le Caporal", always mindful of using the very best produce.

Behind the eco-neighbourhood of the Cartoucherie, a stone's throw from the gardens of the Barry, the Robins du Bois gang have opened their chiringuito-style guinguette « Les Robins ». Like a Spanish beach bar, your summer evenings will be full of surprises, between relaxation and fiesta.

« Les Terrasses de l 'Atelier » installed at the foot of the hillsides of Pech-David is the greenest of the pink city. Surrounded by trees, the place extends over 5 levels, with indoor and outdoor bars and food courts, 7 days on 7, noon and evenings.

The hippodrome of Toulouse also welcomes a pop-up guinguette in a green setting on nearly 5000m2. What to expect at the « Poney Club »? Foodtrucks, tapas, "pétanque" and games area, not to mention DJ sets for a dancing atmosphere on Fridays and Saturdays.

On the banks of the Canal du Midi, the old Matabiau lockhouse has also been transformed into a guinguette: "Museau Musette". Enjoy the calm of the canal in the shade of the plane trees and watch the barges go by... that's the summer programme!

Around Toulouse

This summer, a band of emblematic roommates from the pink city arrive at the Mas des Canelles in Castanet-Tolosan, around a temporary restaurant project: « Les Coloc ». On the menu of this charming place on the Canal du Midi: the gastronomic creativity of Bicoq’ Traiteur, the good charcuterie of Maison Garcia, the delicious cheese from Chez Betty, the unmissable cocktails of Fatcat and an exceptional choice of wines from the Garonne wine and cannons shop! The most sporty of us will dare the round trip by bike to enjoy the ride along the canal.

Guinguette at the château: the Château de Thégra in Balma opens up its park for the summer pop-up ginguette « Flon-Flon ». As a true gourmet rendezvous with an unmissable view over the city of Toulouse, Flon-Flon is opened for dinner from Tuesday to Sunday and offers a delicious brunch on the weekend.
Shabby chic ambiance guaranteed!

The city of L'Union also has a new temporary venue called « Le Nomad ». A true invitation to dream and travel, with an asian-inspired cuisine and an atypical setting composed of sand and tipis for a boho atmosphere.

« La Guinguette d'Odyssud » in Blagnac welcomes you in the heart of Ritouret Park, on the banks of the lake with its charming water jet. This guinguette provides the ambiance for after-work gatherings thanks to DJs on Thursdays and live music on Fridays. Gourmets among us have not been overlooked either, as the welcome is guaranteed by the team at Le Bistrot des Artistes. Still in Blagnac, just next to the aeronautics museum, the « Guinguette Aeroscopia by Moustache » welcomes you from Wednesday to Saturday. Here, local products are honoured and guaranteed by Moustache, unmissable Figure of the Toulouse gastronomy!

« L'Éphémère Guinguette » located in Lacroix-Flagarde, looks set to be the special address for those who want to enjoy the true spirit of the French Guinguette, as well as concerts throughout the summer season.

« Estolosa » is the name of the pop-up restaurant born of the alliance between Domaine Estolosa and Bicoq’ Traiteur. Outside Toulouse, this exceptional place of greenery with views of the golf and the Pyrenees combines an inimitable setting with a friendly and authentic cuisine.
