Christmas Timein Toulouse

Looking for a great winter holiday destination? Let yourself be tempted by Toulouse with our mini guide to visiting Toulouse during Christmas Time.

In a not so cold weather, the city boasts several events in december, not to mention the return of the Christmas market for its 20th edition and a new festive walking tour for visitors.

Christmas shopping and markets...

Compared to the more Germanic Christmas markets in northern France, Toulouse provides wonderful alternative markets for shoppers, with Jack Frost nibbling at their nose noticeably less, as temperatures remain in the low ‘teens’. The chalet-style stalls provide visitors young and old with a feast for the eyes and their taste-buds, thanks to the original gift ideas to choose from and winter warmers to sample. Shoppers who are on the look-out for the perfect gift for their loved-ones can converse with the local artisans about their hand-crafted products, whether it’s toys, pottery, jewellery, candles, clothing or leather goods, and regional specialities including foie gras, preserves and baked goods.

Find the perfect gifts for Christmas

Place du Capitole - From Friday 22nd November to Thursday 26th December 2019, Toulouse’s Capitole square comes alive with festive cheer as it becomes the setting for the city’s 20th annual Christmas market. To kick-start the festive season, Toulouse’s Christmas lights are officially switched on by the mayor at 4.30 pm on Sunday 1st November. Residents and visitors arel then invited to come together to admire the jubilant parade that works its way through the cobbled streets of the city. A foodie experience...

After making their way around the delightful, quaint stalls, there’s no better way for visitors to refuel than with a glass of vin chaud, French tapas or a warm, hearty bowl of cassoulet: a regional speciality comprising duck, pork, haricot beans and that all-important Toulouse sausage in a delicious sauce. To make the most of the Toulouse over the festive period and its Christmas markets, don't miss Sweets of the Season: Christmas tour, a new walking tour developped by American ex-pat Jessica Hammer. On this two-hour tour, visitors meet talented artisan chocolatiers and sweet makers, sampling food and drink en route, before ending at the Christmas market for a hot drink and photos against a backdrop of twinkling Christmas lights.
